Hill Close Gardens, Warwick
Restored Hidden Victorian Gardens, a horticultural treasure in the medieval city of Warwick. A beautiful visit organised by the Garden Media Guild for its members
September 2024
A horticultural treasure in the beautiful medieval city of Warwick. A series of utterly charming Victorian free-standing gardens lie just 15 minutes walk across town. The sixteen hedged plots of Hill Close Gardens were almost lost forever in the 1990s, when Warwick District Council acquired the land and secured planning permission to construct 30 houses on the site. It was only the quick thinking of neighbours - who raced to secure listed status first for the summerhouses and then the entire plot - that this precious piece of history was saved.
Now protected by a Trust and restored by a small army of gardeners and volunteers, the gardens and their gorgeous summerhouses are home to events throughout the year, from art workshops to country fairs. Plus, this month, the many rare and heritage apples grown in the gardens will be available for tasting and sale.
Thank you so much for this incredible visit for Garden Media Guild members.
