Because some gatherings will be outside the burough of Melton Mowbray, I have created this page separate to the Facebook group 'Melton Mowbray District Nature & Wildlife' in respect of the group's rules.
​

After taking daily jaunts with my camera in the countryside last year, I appreciate the joy that this simple pleasure brings.​ Then in July 2022, I joined the Facebook group 'Melton Mowbray District Nature & Wildlife' created by Carole Dent, a neighbour of mine. In the Autumn of 2022 I organised 'gatherings' for members to meet up and immerse in local nature & wildlife. They were slow-paced, tranquil and appreciated by the small number of people that joined in, and so I will be organising more this year.​

This is apparently a gem of a place to visit.
​
Historical Site: Cambrian period/around 541 million years ago. The wood is Leicestershire’s most important ancient woodland for nature conservation. Quarries within the wood were a source of the distinctive Swithland Slate.
