Scientific name: Dahlia pinnata
Family: Asteraceae
First introduced into Great Britain from Spain in 1798, the Dahlia is a much cherished bloom, with its unrivalled showy display from summer into autumn. Initially, it came from Mexico to the Botanical Gardens in Madrid towards the end of the eighteenth century, and so has been in Europe for over two hundred years.
